Utrecht Flemish White

Utrecht is proud to introduce Flemish White in both 37ml and 150ml tubes

37ml  $25.99

150ml $74.99

Flemish white is a hand ground color made in the
US with pure linseed oil & Basic Lead Carbonate (PW1).
This is a ropy lead white revealing a bright tone with a semi-opaque finish. The highly sought after ‘Rembrandt highlight’ effects can be achieved with its unique consistency. The brush naturally draws this white into long irregular impasto passages and this increases volume to areas where the illusion of light needs to be portrayed. This older version of lead has been painstaking researched and here it has been reproduced to match the original consistencies of our beloved Dutch Masters paints. As a foot note: Both of these lead whites are derived from the finest lead making processes available today, and both are true to their historical consistency and illumination. They are both hand crafted and require special supervision during the manufacturing process. This, in large part, causes the cost of these two products to be noticeably higher than other, seemingly, like products.

Utrecht Flake White

Utrecht is proud to introduce Flake White Oils in both 37ml and 150ml tubes.

37ml $25.99

150ml $74.99

Flake white is a hand ground color made in the US with pure linseed oil & Basic Lead Carbonate (PW1). This is a soft & buttery lead white revealing a bright white consistency that is semi-opaque. This white is excellent for illuminating flesh tone mixtures in figure or portraiture painting.  You will find this color to be superior to zinc white in this regard for two reasons; Flake White’s dry film does not become brittle, and it creates a naturally pleasing warm tone.  Flake oxidizes rapidly. Therefore, continuous build up is both possible and encouraged.  Flake is highly permanent in every regard and remains the preferred portraiture white even after so many other variations have been offered.
